Final 2011-12 Budget minimizes program reductions
After nearly a year of intense review and community discussion, the Tigard-Tualatin School Board has adopted its 2011-12 budget.
The $109 million budget funds 44.43 fewer staff positions, but keeps most district programs intact.  Retirements, additional dollars budgeted from district reserves and increased state funding minimized the actual number of staff layoffs.
Also spared were some programs that had been slated for reductions including orchestra and elementary TAG (Talented and Gifted).  Read more about the restored programs and the final budget reductions . . .

New principals will lead 3 elementary schools
The Tigard-Tualatin School District’s three new elementary principals all share one common trait.  Each has been an exceptional teacher-leader.  The three, Jamie Kingery, Wanda Hennelly and Tiffany Wiencken will join the district July 1. Read more

District wins $230,000 Title IID EdTech Grant
Fifth grade classrooms at Templeton Elementary and sixth grade classrooms at Twality Middle School will be the beneficiaries of a $230,000 Title IID EdTech Grant.  The grant will fund training for teachers to create “technology-rich learning environments” as they implement the district’s new K-8 science curriculum.  The technology and science materials will be paid for by the district’s May 17 bond measure.

Rosalie Brown-Lundh is Tigard-Tualatin Teacher of the Year
An exceptional elementary school music teacher who is one of only four Tigard-Tualatin Nationally Board Certified teachers is this year’s Teacher of the Year.  Rosalie Brown-Lundh has taught music at Deer Creek since the school opened in 1997. Read more

Rachel Rivera is Classified Employee of the year
Students enter Twality Middle School’s alternative program at risk of dropping out.  They leave on tract for success in high school.  One of the reasons for their success is Rachel Rivera, the district’s Classified Employee of the Year. Read more

Tigard-Tualatin’s bond measure passes
Tigard-Tualatin voters were among the few in the state to approve additional funding for schools at the May 17 Election.  Read more

$835,700 seismic grant also permits needed facility repairs
The district was the recipient of another big grant---$835,700 from the Oregon Emergency Management Department for seismic upgrades to Twality Middle School.  Read more

Tigard-Tualatin graduation rate is tops among large school districts
State Schools Supt. Susan Castillo chose the Tigard-Tualatin School District to announce the latest statewide graduation rate on April 26.  While statewide, 66% of last year's seniors graduated within four years--in Tigard-Tualatn, that number was 81%, the highest among the state's largest school districts.   Read more . . .

Bridgeport, Tualatin earn Closing the Achievement Gap awards
The Tigard-Tualatin School District is home to 2 of the 13 Oregon schools recognized by State Supt. Susan Castillo for closing the achievement gap among low income and minority students.  Bridgeport received a "Continuing Success" award for the second year in a row after having earned the Champion School award in 2008-09.  Tualatin Elementary earned a Champion School award for the first time, this year.  Read more and to see a list of winning schools . . .

TTSD receives top rating in national Educational Productivity Report
The Tigard-Tualatin School District has received the highest rating from a new report that measures educational productivity.  The report by the Washington DC-based Center for American Progress used 2007-08 spending data and 2007-08 reading and math test scores to determine a school district's level of academic achievement per dollar spent.  Read more . . .
