A Message from the Principal...Mr. Nihill

We have been having a number of issues with cell phones and Ipods being used during the school day. Students are allowed to bring these to school (students like to listen to them on the bus,) but they must remain in their backpack for the entire school day. All students have been warned about this policy. If they choose to take these out of their backpack and play with them during the school day the item will be confiscated and a parent will need to come to the school and pick it up.

Being a parent of three children myself, I know how tough it is scheduling dentist, orthodontist, and other doctor’s appointments. Please try to schedule these appointments outside of the school day if possible. We covet the time we have with your children and don't want to see them miss very important instructional time.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me.

ACTIVITY FLYERS:

All flyers will now be posted on our website, instead of being sent home. You can find these flyers by going to the "Get Involved" blue tab (at the top) and then clicking on "Community Activities and Sports." If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Lauri Barry at 503-431-4201 OR lbarry@ttsd.k12.or.us. Thanks!

AUCTION INFORMATION

SCHOOL HOUSE ROCKS!! Totally Awesome Education for our Kids

Save the date! This year's Bridgeport Auction is schedule for April 28, 2012 at Club Sport and planning for this year's auction is in full swing! Thanks to your contribution and others, we raised nearly $30,000 last year, enabling us to provide a fully-funded trip for each student at Bridgeport, as well as supplies to support each classroom teacher, office equipment, and updated safety equipment for our PE program. Our hope this year is to support literacy programs in order to compensate for the cut library program and continue to fund educational field trips.

We invite you to partner with us in support of our biggest annual fundraiser. With your help, we hope to have another successful auction in order to bridge the financial gap left by recent budget cuts and benefit every child at Bridgeport Elementary. All funds raised by the Bridgeport PTA enhance the quality of education our children receive. Here's how you can help:

1. Consider donating an item for the auction. Ideas include:

* Gift cards to local restaurants or retailers. All of us have a couple buried in our wallet that we will probably never use. Or, ask the Manager when you are at your favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or salon! Buy a discounted package on Groupon or sharing shree.

* Event tickets. Do you have season tickets to the Blazers, college football, concerts, or plays?

* Vacation home getaways. These are great sellers!

* Host a party. Progressive dinner, poker, bunco, mother/daughter spa, murder mystery, cuisine of the world, wine or beer dinner, line dancing, family softball game and picnic. You get the idea.

* Gift baskets. Or even individual items you think would fit well in a basket. We can bundle them for you.

* Professional services. Landscaping, tax preparation, tutoring, coaching, music lessons, graphic or interior design, residential painting, babysitting. The options are limitless.

2. Make a cash donation. These tax deductible donations will be used to purchase large auction items and to cover the expenses involved with hosting the event.

3. Be sure to save the date! Join us April 28 at Club Sport for a fun night with your school community.

Please keep in mind, your donation is 100% tax deductible, and will be recognized in the Auction Catalog. On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff at Bridgeport, we thank you for supporting our school and investing in our children's future!

Broadway Rose Theater

Grades 2-5 will be taking a field trip to see “The Klondike: The Great Alaskan Gold Rush” at the Tualatin HS Auditorium on Wednesday, February 15. Students will be leaving Bridgeport at 9:55am and returning at 11:30am.

On July 17, 1897, the steamer Portland docked in Seattle's harbor with seventy ordinary men who were carrying an extraordinary million-dollar fortune in Yukon River gold. Their fantastic stories coursed through the city streets. "It was a half a ton of gold—no, a ton! —and the nuggets lay big as marbles, bright in the streambeds, just there for the taking." As one wide-eyed prospector said, "This is the richest thing ever known. Everybody is crazy." The bonanza promised wealth to anyone who could get to the Klondike, and the great rush was on! Yet would prospectors be ready for the unimaginable challenges to be faced in their quests to strike it rich? Join us on a musical adventure from Seattle to the wild Yukon to discover this important and thrilling period in Pacific Northwest history. Witness the hardships, struggles, and triumphs experienced by those in the frontier, and learn how the Klondike Gold Rush shaped our region forever.
