Welcome to the Bridgeport Counseling Webpage!
I am honored to be the school counselor and psychologist at this wonderful school. It is my goal to support the development of students as they grow into healthy, productive, and successful community members. Here is a little of what I do to serve our students at school:
Small groups: As the year goes on, I offer a variety of small groups that will assist students in being a better student, adjust to changes in their lives, or get along with others better. These groups may have topics such as Anger Management, Social Skills, Divorce, Grief and Loss, or Finding Your Strengths. Groups offer an opportunity for children to learn new skills in a supportive setting that in turn helps students be successful in school. Teachers and parents are welcome to make referrals.
Individual work with students: My door is always open to students who need help adjusting to school or dealing with specific problems they are experiencing. I provide a safe and comfortable environment where children can share their concerns and feelings. I assist students in learning how to express themselves and their needs in a respectful and positive way.
Parent/staff consultation: I also consult with parents and staff in the best interests of your child. If you would like to meet with me, please feel free to call to set up an appointment.
Psychology: As the school psychologist, I work with staff and teachers to help students with disabilities or with special talents. I help develop effective techniques to support students academically and to manage behavior at home and in the classroom.
Other: I help plan events such as Red Ribbon Week (an anti-drug campaign), Spirit Week, and a number of community based programs, such as Lunch Buddies (an adult-to-student mentoring program) and Pennies for Patients (a fundraiser supporting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society).
I also coordinate our school's Conflict Manager program (students helping students solve playground problems), Safety Patrol, and Student Ambassadors.
I also help students and families connect with community resources as needed. If there is anything I can do to help you or your child in any way, please call or email me: Katie Pierce, School Counselor/Psychologist (503) 431-4209 or kpierce@ttsd.k12.or.us
“Success ~ To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics …to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is success.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
