Lifeskills
At Bridgeport, we believe that teaching everyday life skills is a valuable part of each student's education. Teaching students to work with others and encouraging them to become active citizens in the community are all a part of helping them be successful in the future. Students are learning and practicing different life skills each and every day as they interact with others and participate at school.
Every two weeks, we highlight a new life skill that the students are learning about. Classrooms take turns creating a bulletin board in the hallway that represents what they have learned or how they are practicing that life skill. Keep your eyes open throughout the year for new displays just outside the library. The life skills are also talked about on the morning announcements and reviewed during our Friday “Do The Right Thing” lunch assemblies. We encourage you to talk to your child at home about these life skills and help them learn new ways to implement them into their daily lives. This week, Bridgeport is focusing on:
FLEXIBILITY - The ability to alter plans when necessary. Mrs. Houtz and Mrs. Bell's class teamed up with their buddies and created a beautiful display in the library. Together the students illustrated and wrote about ways that they are flexible at school and at home. For example, some students noted that they are flexible on the playground when they share the ball with others or when we have a fire drill and they have to stop what they are doing.
