A message from our Principal, Mrs. Hennelly…….
Happy New Year and Welcome Back! I can’t believe how fast this year is going and that we are beginning 2012 already. It has been a great start to the year and I am so enjoying working with everyone at CFT!
As we move into the new year, one of our focuses will be on the Oregon State Testing. In Oregon, all students in grades 3 through 8 must take the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) tests in the areas of Reading and Math. Students in grades 5 and 8 must also take Science. Students may have up to three opportunities per year to pass these tests. For the purposes of measuring your student’s growth and the effectiveness of the school’s program, your child may be asked to take the test again at a later date, even if they have previously passed. If you would like to exempt your student from taking further assessments after having demonstrated proficiency, please contact the school’s office.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders will be starting our first round of the OAKS assessments in February. Watch for the testing schedule in the next newsletter.
As a reminder, we have a couple of volunteer opportunities at CFT for interested adults. We are looking for help during our lunch periods in Café Charles. We also could use some indoor recess help in the library on Mondays and Fridays. And one more new position…we are going to start using students to help with bus patrol in the mornings and we need an adult to be the coordinator. Please let one of us in the office know if you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions.
