Principal's Message
Hello! My name is Kraig Sproles and I am proud to be the principal at Metzger Elementary.
If you visit our school you will quickly see that Metzger is a great place for students and their families. We are a vibrant learning community that focuses on sustaining a stong school community and ensuring that every student is academically successful.
Each year, we set goals that focus our curriculum and instruction. This year we are concentrating on Writing. Students at all grade-levels will be using the Lucy Calkins curriculum to increase their ability to write in a variety of settings. The curriculum uses the Writer's Workshop model to encourage students to think about their writing, share their ideas with other students and publish their stories.
We are also excited that our community passed a science and technology bond that enabled us to adopt a new Science program called Interactive Science. The curriculum promotes scientific inquiry, the use of evidence, critical thinking and making scientific connections. The curriculum has a vibrant technology component and will be integrated with our technology lessons.
The families at Metzger are integral partners in the success of all our students. Throughout the school year families are encouraged to help us celebrate student success at Family Nights that highlight multiculturalism, writing, math, literacy and art. Together we ensure that every student finds joy at school, creates strong positive relationships and reaches his or her academic potential.
If you have any questions about our school please feel free to give me a call at (503) 431-4600.
Sincerely,
Kraig Sproles
