.Metzger Families— This is an excerpt from an email sent from Mr. Risher who is our PE teacher and afterschool Chess Coach. Yesterday we had a very cool moment for our school and our kids. The Chess Team played in the Chess for Success Regional Championships yesterday and placed 2nd! We missed out on 1st by a half point (equivalent to one tied match) Only the top 2 teams get to advance to the State Championships so this is a huge honor and an extremely difficult task. We had 10 players that competed with a few extra kids that showed up and played in a side tournament for fun. The team will be competing in the State Finals, March 2nd at the Oregon Convention Center. Congratulations Mr. Risher and our Metzger Chess Team! We will be cheering for you on March 2nd as you represent our school at the State Finals.

PASS Team (Partnership for Academically Successful Students)
Metzger’s PASS team has begun meeting. PASS seeks to engage and empower families and communities of color to ensure that all of our students reach their fullest potential. This group of Metzger parents meets regularly to help the school better address the needs of our children of color. They plan school activities, advise the school on how to better support our parents of color and help keep the school focused on closing the racial achievement gap. PASS will also be a major organizer of this year’s Multi-Cultural celebration.
We will have a few meetings at Metzger and then join other school PASS teams from our district for three other meetings throughout the year.
