Literacy Center / Title I
The Tualatin Elementary Literacy Center offers a range of reading supports to students throughout the school year. These services are made possible through a range of district and federal funding sources, including Title I. Title I is the name given to a federal law that grants funds to schools that demontrate high rates of free and reduced lunch. As a district, we have dedicated all of our Title I funds to literacy. Our department currently runs 30+ reading intervention groups per day. We serve approx. 165 students (or 27% of the school poplulation). We have two half time literacy specialists - Christy Shaver and Penny Jahraus. Christy works Monday, Tuesday, and Wed mornings and Penny works Wed, Thur, and Fridays. We are lucky to work with a dedicated, talented team of instructional assistants: Linda Blackwood (also our Family Involvement Coordinator), Faye Orme, Heather Peterson, Margaret Girardi, Carolyn Tucker, Rebecca Marquis, Pat Weiland, and Constantine Trumpower. Mr. Trumpower joins us as part of an Americorp grant and this year he is also serving as our school's Math Coordinator.
