First Grade

What do we learn in first grade?
Our goal for first grade is to develop independent workers with an “I can do it!” spirit. Children learn to read independently, manage their own class work and homework, and how to problem solve both academically and socially. In first grade we build upon the solid academic foundation, which began in kindergarten. Our curriculum primarily focuses on reading and mathematics and becoming more fluent in both areas. We also incorporate social studies and science. Always popular with the students, our science units are studies of weather, states of matter, and amphibians.
We are looking forward to a terrific year and watching the growth and development of the children!
