Third Grade
Welcome to the Third Grade Team Page!!
There are so many exciting changes that happen during the third grade year. Children are really becoming outstanding readers, writers and thinkers. Our school days and year are jam-packed!
In math we will explore graphing and data, place value, geometry, measurement, fractions, probability, money and of course addition and subtraction. Our big-ticket concepts are learning multiplication and division. Learning our multiplication time’s tables earns a spot in our multiplication party.
In science, we are focusing on weather, spiders and simple machines. For social studies, we look at geography or map skills, community and the Iditarod. In health, we learn about the human body and healthy choices for our human bodies.
Cursive!!! Third graders start learning cursive! Students love learning and practicing these new capital and lower case letters.
We stress the importance of homework and 20 minutes of “just right” reading every night.
This year we will be going to the Oregon Children’s Theater and Ibach Park. We also have special presentations from The Tualatin Valley Water District and Brad’s Reptile World. We are always working hard to add to this list, so we hope for this list of field trips and presentations to grow.
Third grade is the first year of Oregon State Assessments for reading and math. Students will take this assessment at least two times during the year on the computer. It is a multiple-choice assessment that covers a variety of reading and math strands. Please much sure your student has a good night sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast the day of the assessments.
