Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is about expanding a student's intellectual horizons, developing their academic skills and knowledge and challenging them to stretch their abilities into new areas of growth. The Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) component of the Diploma Program is designed to accomplish these aims beyond the walls of the classroom. Students develop a balanced, two-year plan of action for developing their creativity, action and service to the community during their junior and senior years. The minimum is a combined 150 hours of personal development and interpersonal commitment in these areas. |

The Extended EssayResearch projects are a staple of collegiate coursework, as anyone who has attended college can attest. The Extended Essay, a 3,500-4,000 word research paper completed during the student's senior year in a subject of his or her choosing, is an excellent preparation for college-level expectations. |

IB ExaminationsThe International Baccalaureate exams are offered annually in May (in the Northern Hemisphere). The format varies by subject, but most exams include between two and three sections and are most often essay-based. Students who register for exams will receive notification of testing procedures and regulations (including the use of graphing calcluators) in the weeks prior to the exam.Teachers typically offer review sessions in April for the exams, especially to cover material from the junior year that appears on senior exams. Students will receive notification about dates and times for these exams in the spring. |

Learn more about IB examinations and registration Theory of Knowledge (TOK)TOK is considered by many IB educators to be the jewel at the heart of the Diploma Program. It is a philosophical investigation into the nature of knowledge itself, and the interdisciplinary linkage among the six designated subject areas of knowledge in the Diploma Program. Diploma students complete a Theory of Knowledge essay discussing one of ten philosophical questions provided by the IBO. TOK is one manifestation of the IBO's commitment to developing student's ability to think critically.![]() |
