TUALATIN HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS AND GUIDELINES

PHILOSOPHY & GOALS:

The Tualatin Physical Education Department offers classes designed topromote physical fitness, poise, and coordination through the learning of skills and knowledge in various sports and activities. In the various Physical Education courses, students will have the
opportunity to develop fundamental motor skills and patterns. Students will learn how to achieve/maintain an optimum level of physical fitness through fitness training (including target heart rate training), as well as sports activities, including self-management and social behavior skills (teamwork).

Students will be given the opportunity to improve and/or maintain their own personal level of fitness, especially flexibility, and cardiovascular and muscular endurance. Students will be encouraged to develop a physically active lifestyle, where they can use the knowledge and skills learned in their classes to enjoy a regular schedule of physical activity for life, to insure physical stamina necessary for everyday healthful living.

Your grade will be based on 3 areas (with 6 pts. possible per day)

EXPECTATIONS:

All students are to use a school lock (not one from home)and the locker assigned to them. Student will pay a lock deposit to the bookkeeper and bring the lock receipt to their teacher the second day of class.

A basic requirement for all personal fitness classes will be to complete their physical fitness testing at the end of each quarter. The test results will go into their portfolio.

All students are expected to dress down daily. Since this is a participation-based class, it is of the utmost importance that each student dresses down EVERY DAY. The consequences for not dressing down are as follows: IF AVAILABLE, students may borrow loaner clothes. It is not the P.E. Department's responsibility to provide loaner clothes.

Students without clothes will be excused to Supervised Study with a PE-related writing
assignment (worth 2 points) that is due to the SS teacher at the end of the period.

If a student develops a pattern of not dressing down, the teacher will call a conference (may be a phone conference) between parent/student/teacher to further communicate class expectations.

Sick or injured students will be asked to show that they have their appropriate PE attire at
school and then given the option of 1) dressing down and participating to the best of their
current ability for full credit or 2) going to the Health Room for the entire period with the
opportunity to make up for full credit (see makeup policy)

ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP POLICY FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES:

Students can only make-up an excused absence.

Admit slips are issued by the Student Affairs Office. (Parent needs to call 431-5631 or write a note to excuse the absence within one day of return) Students are to bring this admit slip to class and will not be admitted without it. Unexcused absences result in detention.

Absences are to be made-up in the TuHS Weight Room after school or at the Swim Center during an Open Swim or Lap Swim. The TUHS Swim Center phone number is (503) 431-5655. Call for hours. Return this slip to your teacher within a week of your absence.

Only one absence can be made up per day.

You may only make up FOUR absences per quarter. Anything over four days must be approved by the Physical Education Department.
