Tualatin High School Equestrian Team
The equestrian team has been a club at Tualatin for over 10 years. The team competes in the Tri-River Valley District of the Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET). OHSET is a statewide association comprised of 9 districts.
Students can be members of the team as riders or grooms (non-riders). If you are a rider, you will need to have a horse or access to a horse and transportation for that horse. Our district meets are in February, March and April with the state meet in May. We compete against 8 other high schools in our district, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Lakeridge, Wilsonville, Oregon City, Molalla, Colton and Tigard. The district meets offer teams the opportunity to compete in individual events and team events. There are 25 events offered at each meet, including Dressage, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunt Seat Over Fences (2"9"), Trail, Stock Seat Equitation, Showmanship, Working Rancher, Reining, Roping Barrels, Flags, Poles and Team Penning. District medals, High Point Champion and Reserve Champion belt buckles, top five jackets and High Point Champion plaques are awarded to the top individuals and teams in the district.
Participation includes attending team meetings, which are usually held Oct-April on Tuesday mornings at 7:30am prior to school starting (late start) as well as competing in the district meets. Riders practice their patterns with their trainers at their own barns, there are occasional team practices offered. The meets are run entirely by volunteers, so parent involvement is important at each meet. There are fees to join OHSET (similar to high school sports fees), additional costs include stall fees and team apparel.
Our team goals are to have fun, support each other, learn new skills and develop as a rider.
