Graduation Requirements
The New Oregon Diploma
In 2008, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) made a number of changes to state graduation requirements to increase the rigor of a high school diploma. Last year, the Tigard-Tualatin School District modified its diploma requirements and they are detailed below. A total of 26.5 Credits are required for a regular TTSD diploma.
1. Read and comprehend a variety of text (Class of 2012 and beyond)
2. Write clearly and accurately (Class of 2013 and beyond)
3. Apply mathematics in a variety of settings (Class of 2014 and beyond)
4. Listen actively and speak clearly and coherently (To be determined)
Questions regarding diploma requirements can be directed to counselors or the associate principal for curriculum and instruction.

- English/Language Arts: 4 Credits
- Math: 3 Credits
For the Class of 2014 and beyond: 3 credits of Algebra I or higher
- Science: 2 Credits
For the Class of 2012 and beyond: 3 credits of inquiry based science, two of which must also have a lab component.
- Social Studies: 3 Credits
- Applies Arts/Fine Arts/Foreign Language: 2 Credits
For the Class of 2012 and beyond: 3 credits. (This can be any combination of the three areas.)
- Physical Education: 1 Credit
- Health Education: 1 Credit
- Career Education (FOCUS/Global Pespectives): .5 Credit
- Career Related Learning: 2 Credits
- Electives: 8 Credits
For the Class of 2012 and beyond: 6 creditsAdditionally, ODE added “Essential skills” to graduation requirements. Many of these will be embedded in regular course work and mastery will be demonstrated through state testing, national testing, and/or work samples. The following are the “Essential Skills” proficiency requirements and the timeline of implementation.
